On Tuesday, March 13, four 5th grade students from Cuba City Elementary School took part in “The Battle of the Books” at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore. The event was sponsored by CESA 3. The participating students were Maxine Austin, Taylor Grossen, Faith Kruser, and Mercedes Neis. Each student has read a set of 8 trade books over the last few months. During the competition, in which they competed against 18 other area teams of four, the girls were quizzed individually and then as a group on book content. Mercedes Neis earned a 1st place ribbon for her individual score, and Maxine Austin earned a 3rd place ribbon for her individual score.
