I'm Not a Robot

FTC robotics team

Who are we?

We are team #15382, I Am Not A Robot. We are a registered FTC team CCSD 9th-12th grade students. Our head coach is Mrs. Brewer, and we are currently looking for an assistant coach.

What do we do?

FTC Robotics is an organization that focuses on the fields of STEM and directly related leadership skills. Each year we must design, build, and program a robot to complete the year's challenge. Together, we learn skills of engineering, problem-solving, programming, management, how to effectively reach out to make a positive impact in our community, and help build connections in the FIRST organization.

What is the competition?

FTC teams across the world are introduced to a new challenge each year. We participate in two to three regular season competitions each year. At each competition, we compete in several team robot competitions, working to advance to the “tournament/bracket” rounds. To do so, we use the robot we’ve built over the course of the season to complete different challenges on the field for points. Additionally, we are scored on a presentation, portfolio, and Q & A sessions.  Scores from judged performance and top robot performance can lead to advancement to state competitions.

What can YOU do on our team?

We have various positions on the team, and you can pick and choose which ones you would like to try and master. The jobs you can work in are:

  • Builder - fabricate the pieces used in the robot,  construct the machine as a whole
  • Programmer - write the code that the robot uses to run, currently using Java
  • Designer - draw out, think up the base ideas for the robot and its attachments, help brainstorm the best ways to complete a challenge
  • CAD - use computer software to simulate and design to-spec parts of the robot, may design a gear to be 3D printed, create a mockup of a new attachment or even the entire robot on computer
  • Driver - use game controllers to pilot the robot during competitions, needs two drivers on the team each season; good idea to have an alternate
  • Management - help keep the team in check, write team logs, work on the portfolio, oftentimes work closely with outreach
  • Outreach - stays on top of sponsorships, connections with other teams, community events, and basically anything that involves showing our team to a broader audience, including making social media posts

Interested in joining?

Whether you are passionate about STEM, looking into careers related to STEM, management, leadership, and/or interested in learning about robotics, we encourage you to contact us!
